Let me start with a confession!! I have been in Taiwan for more than 11 years now, but my Chinese is absolutely shocking. If you can imagine the face of someone sitting on a razor blade and sliding down its sharpened edge, then you can picture the look on most peoples' faces when I try to speak Chinese to them. My written Chinese is not much better. Basically, my written characters look like a spider has decided to put on a pair of muddy boats and then run around on the page.
Still, New Year is coming, right? And New Year means a whole new set of resolutions. So, assuming that Father Christmas doesn't gift me a complete set of Chinese language skills on Christmas Day, it's a safe bet to say that improving my Chinese ability will be near the top of my New Year resolutions.
In the meantime, I will badger a family member, friend, or indeed complete stranger, to help me translate the more relevant posts on the blog. So, grit your teeth and bear it. A Chinese-friendly version of the blog will be coming very soon.
Have a good Christmas, you all!! Don't forget to hang up your Christmas sock at the end of your bed and to leave a mince pie and glass of sherry for Santa (or the mice, whichever gets to them first).
